Privacy Policy
Last updated: 9 August 2026
This policy explains what CineCircle collects when you use the CineCircle mobile app and this website, why we collect it, who it goes to, and what you can ask us to do with it. It applies to everyone who uses CineCircle, and you don't need an account to read it.
Information we collect
Account information
When you sign up we collect your email address and a password. Accounts are handled by Supabase, which stores your password only as a cryptographic hash — we never see or store the password itself. We also keep the dates your account was created, confirmed, and last signed in to.
Profile information
Everything you choose to put on your profile: username, display name, bio, profile picture, the country and city you optionally enter, your primary and secondary language preferences, favourite genres and films, and your privacy settings such as whether your account is private and whether spoilers are hidden. All of this is optional except a username, and you can edit or clear it in the app at any time.
Content you create
Posts, comments and replies, star ratings and written reviews, tags, spoiler flags, reactions, comment likes, reposts, the accounts you follow, and your watchlists and bookmarks. Any images you attach to a post, a profile picture, or an event are uploaded to Amazon S3 and stored there. Content you post to a public profile is visible to other CineCircle users, and anything you post publicly should be treated as public.
Event information
If you create a local cinema event, we store the details you enter — title, description, time, genre, cost, languages, an optional image, and the venue's latitude and longitude. We also store your RSVPs so you can see what you're attending.
CineCircle does not track your device's location. The app requests no location permission and reads no GPS data. The only coordinates we hold are the ones someone typed in to describe where an event takes place.
Technical and session information
Our authentication provider records the IP address and device user-agent attached to your sign-in sessions, along with authentication events, to keep sessions working and to detect abuse. We do not use any analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs, and CineCircle contains no advertising.
How we use your information
- To create your account and sign you in
- To show your profile, posts, ratings and events to you and to other users
- To build your feed from the accounts you follow
- To let people find you and your content through search
- To respond when you contact support
- To keep the service working, investigate abuse, and enforce our rules
We do not use your information to build advertising profiles, and we do not run automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. We rely on a small number of service providers to run CineCircle:
- Supabase — hosts our database and handles accounts, passwords and sessions.
- Amazon Web Services (S3) — stores images you upload for posts, profiles and events.
- The Movie Database (TMDB) — supplies film information such as titles, posters and release years. We send film lookups, not your personal information.
- OpenStreetMap Nominatim — converts event coordinates into a readable place name such as "Chennai, Tamil Nadu". We send the event's coordinates, not your identity.
- A third-party translation service — if you ask for a post or comment to be translated, the text of that content is sent to an external translation provider to be translated and returned.
We may also disclose information if we are legally required to, or where it is necessary to protect the safety of our users.
Where your data is stored
CineCircle's database and image storage are operated by the providers above and may be located in the United States. If you use CineCircle from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed there.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to do the following, and we will not treat you differently for asking:
- Tell you what personal information we hold about you
- Give you a copy of it
- Correct anything that is wrong
- Delete your account and the content attached to it
- Restrict or object to how we use it
To make any of these requests, email cinecircleco@gmail.com from the address on your account. We may ask you to confirm your identity before we act, and we aim to respond within 30 days.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we process your information to perform our agreement with you (running your account), on the basis of your consent where you have given it, and on our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. If you are a California resident, the rights listed above cover the CCPA rights to know, delete, and correct; because we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising, there is nothing to opt out of.
Deleting your account
You can delete your profile from inside the app, under Account Settings. This removes your profile and its details from CineCircle.
To have your entire account erased — your login credentials, along with posts, comments, ratings, reactions, follows, RSVPs and uploaded images — email cinecircleco@gmail.com and ask us to delete your account. We handle these requests manually and will confirm when it is done.
How long we keep it
We keep your account information and content for as long as your account exists. When you ask us to delete your account we remove it from our live systems; residual copies may persist in encrypted backups for a limited period before those backups expire.
Children
CineCircle is intended for people aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, email cinecircleco@gmail.com and we will delete the account and its data.
Security
Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit, passwords are stored only as hashes by our authentication provider, and access to production data is limited to the people who maintain CineCircle. No service can promise perfect security, but if we ever discover a breach affecting your information we will tell you.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information we will update this page and change the date at the top. Significant changes will also be announced in the app.
